Holiday party ideas

Holiday Magic
Having a holiday party?  Create some magic with the ideas below.

Invitation - Add the glittery silver snowflakes to Impress' jumbo tag cards for a simple, distinctive invitation.

Decorations - Create a glowing, wintry scene with snowflake-printed luminaries! Simply roll a sheet of snowflake vellum into a cylinder and hold with vellum tape. Vary the heights by cutting the 8-1/2" X 11" sheets of vellum to 7-1/2" X 11" and 6-1/2" X 11". Set a tea light inside for a frosty glow. Add punched out snowflakes to carry out the snowy theme.

Place Cards - Cut white card stock to 2-1/2" X 4-1/4" and use a 1-1/4" circle punch to cut a hole for the napkin in the lower half of the paper. Write the name (or print on the computer before cutting) above the hole and stick the silver snowflake on the top half to create a sparkly décor for the table.

Try this fun packaging idea for your next holiday party - paper mache snowballs.  To open the recipient has to cut it in half with a scissors or knife.  What a fun presentation!

To make, use 2 parts white glue to 1 part warm water.  Mix well.  Tear (don't cut) paper being used into strips, then smaller pieces 3-4 inches long.  Newspaper can be used for most paper mache projects but for the snowballs use white tissue, white crepe paper or even white paper towels. Tissue and crepe paper give a smoother finish but need more layers.  Blow up 7 inch balloons to the desired size.  Setting them in a cup or mug makes it easier to work with the round surface.  Dip the paper into the paste and place on balloon covering the entire surface, overlapping the strips.  Leave the area around the knot of the balloon uncovered.  Let the first layer dry 24 hours.  Add the 2nd layer and let dry for 24 hours again.  Repeat until you have the desired affect with at least 3 layers.  After the last layer is dry, pop the balloon and pull it out.  Add tissue, shredded paper or cellophane inside  the snowball and insert the gift.   Cover the hole with layers of paper mache as before to fill in the hole.  When completely dry the snowball can be decorated with prisma glitter and spray adhesive, or spray glitter.

A set of gift tags make a fun hostess gift.  They're easy to make and it's something everyone can use.  To make these all we did was attach one of the Christmas stickers on the new gift tags cards. We used silver cording to tie each tag and matching envelope and packaged the set in a silver metallic square tin.  You could decorate the tin if you want or leave it just plain.   It's beautiful by itself.

This metal tile can be taken off the card and hung onto a Christmas tree.  The beaded wreath was made by stringing the holiday bead collection onto a short piece of wire.  The ribbon was tied around the twisted ends of the wire and then glued to the metal  tag.  The tag was attached to the card using double stick mounting tape.  Notice the bright red metallic paper used behind the tile.  It really makes the ornament stand out.

Need a hostess gift. If you search on the web, you'll find lots of recipes for different rubs that are easy to make.  We found one for an Asian Rub that we liked.  At Impress we think the fun part of giving a gift is coming up with the packaging design.  A square tin worked great for this.  We added gold origami paper, gold cording and one of our Chinese coins.  We printed the cooking directions on the computer and made a small tag to go with the seasonings.  It's fun to give a hand made gift.

This slider box contains a set of rectangular vellum gift tags.  The darling snowman sticker is made of felt.  To stamp on the vellum tags, we used Brilliance ink as it dries on vellum.  Tying the tags together is a nice touch to remember.
